Cookie Burrows
Art Mentor
Cookie comes from early California people — proud builders, artists, craftspeople, and dreamers. She brings over two decades of experience in the contemporary art world, and a lifetime of all-consuming studies of art, design, and cultural aesthetics.
Social justice is at the root of her curriculum. She believes that educating and empowering children to co-create the diverse and equitable world we strive for is the most direct route to progress. A quote that resonates deeply with her is by Gerhard Richter: “Art is the highest form of hope.” She brings to her classes eclectic and inspired creative-learning opportunities, designed to engage learners wherever they are on their learning journeys and to empower them to share the truest expression of their creative selves.
She lives in Austin with her husband, a painter; her teenage daughter, also an artist; and their beloved dog, Arrow. You will most often find her covered in paint and surrounded by numerous projects.
